Chilling House Cafe: 14 Years of Good Vibes and Great Grubs
Ask yourself: what makes an evening with your friends perfect?
A great venue at the right location with cold drinks to get the conversation flowing? For sure. Maybe throw in some music for extra buzz, mouthwatering treats (that satisfies both your body and soul), and excellent service.
Most would agree that these are the essentials of a delightful night out.
Chilling House Cafe at Coco Walk in Ratchathewi checks off every item on the list above; it’s everything a bar patron could wish for. Since its opening 14 years ago, this long-standing bar has poured much love into its menu and prides itself on being ‘the bar with the best food’.
Walk to towards the back end of Coco Walk, and you’ll find yourself in the middle of two opposing bar fronts. They share similar cozy decor and a yellow glow. Even at first glance, Chilling House Cafe feels incredibly warm and welcoming with its wood, marble, and copper accents.
An alabaster bar counter adds a luxurious pop to the place. The translucent stone slabs have LED lights installed inside - a conversation piece without a doubt.
The outdoor seatings are rattan chairs and table sets, while the indoor ones are a mix of marble, wood, metal, and leather furniture.
The main difference between the two sides is that the original side now has a stage. Three live bands are playing Thai and international tunes every day from 18.45 onwards.
The genres change as the night goes on. In the early evening, you can enjoy folk, jazz, and some easy-listening tracks. After that, though, expect faster, more energetic beats that you can sing along. The late night is when the energy peaks; feel free to dance and go wild with your friends.
The renovated side has a feature that’ll make old and new customers call their friends ASAP. Hear ye - Chilling House Cafe now has its own restrooms.
To meet the customers’ needs, Chilling House Cafe has dedicated an area for its restrooms. Not just any restroom, too. They are intended to be the BEST ones around.
Other than the just-right size and impeccable cleanliness, the bar also installs neon lights in both men’s and women’s rooms. Ready your cameras and snap some shots at these cool corners. (And say goodbye to trekking 100 meters away to the awful communal restrooms!)
Of course, you’ll need some food and drinks to fuel the fun. You can have a ‘treat yo self’ dinner after a long day or do some catch up with your friends with some groovy music in the background.
Chilling House Cafe would never disappoint you with bland, mildly-seasoned dishes as some bars do. On the contrary, their menu focuses on hot Thai flavors with quality ingredients. They offer appetizers along with shared and single dishes; any of them a perfect match for the bar’s ice-cold drinks.
One of the recommended items is Deep-fried Sea Bass with Crispy Garlic and Spicy Seafood Sauce (399 THB); it’s Jumbo-bite-sized pieces of deep-fried sea bass served with spicy ‘Yum’ dressing with a sweet and sour taste.
Tom Yum Seafood (269 THB) is a Tom Yum packed with shrimps, squids, and mussels. The spicy and sour soup is served in a brass hot pot.
For Stir-fried Stewed Pork with Spicy Sauce & Crispy Basil (149 THB), the soft, melt-in-your-mouth stewed pork is battered and deep-fried. Then, the pork is tossed in a special basil sauce and garnished with crispy basil leaves. It’s sweet with just the right amount of heat.
Grilled Pork with Sour Wasabi Sauce (149 THB) is grilled pork jowls with spicy seafood and wasabi sauce guaranteed to wake you up. Other highlight items include Stir-fried Seafood with Hot & Spicy Thai Herbs (159 THB), Deep-fried Spinach & Cheese Spring Rolls (149 THB), and Grilled Beef (159 THB); all of them are worth a try.
As for the drinks, Chilling House Cafe offers soft drinks and several alcoholic options such as cocktails, beers, vodka, and whiskey. You can choose whichever of your favorite beverages to complete your delicious dinner.
