Dropzone Festival’s debut at Wonderworld Theme Park in Bangkok, Thailand, this past weekend on the 2nd and 3rd of March 2018, is indeed a first of many to come. The two-day event saw 10,000 festival-goers per day in attendance, many of who turned up dressed in full survival gear! The apocalyptic-themed event achieved an impressive feat by providing an all-round guest experience from start to finish. Dash Berlin, Dirtcaps, UZ, Sven Vath, Kaskade, Atmozfears and Pan-Pot are only a few prime examples of acts who took to the stages at Dropzone. There are several factors that allowed the event turned out to be such a success, but a definite three would have to be the top-notch production, performances and program.

Barcelona-based Switch Audiovisuals and LEDSControl went above and beyond expectations on the production work for the three stages. The sound, lights, lasers, special effects, and overall stage design left jaws dropping in awe. Attendees first catch a glimpse of the Station stage walking into the festival. The attention to detail was impeccable, with copper rusted panels and a grilled netting enclosure surrounding the DJ booth that both fit right within the “apocalypse” theme. The Armory stage was up next, situated next to the Bazaar area. Abstract mosaic screens around the main LED and a hexagon-shaped lighting panel overhead made for a very interesting display. Dropzone definitely saved the best for last as the grand reveal of the main Core stage only began at the back area of the grounds. The towering structure first came into view at quite a distance and just became more and more impressive closer to with gigantic LED boards and countless laser lights making up one mesmerizing 3D-looking display.

Dash Berlin closed out the Core stage with a literal bang! The fireworks at the end of his set lit up the skies in a shimmering display of colors. Attendees sang along to the heartwarming Save Myself”, his remake of “Coming Home” and the recent remix of Lost Frequencies’ “Crazy”. Dash Berlin’s stunning visuals were projected across the screens, including a stellar display of a waving Thai flag with jet streamers of red, blue and white. Breathe Carolina stood out with an incredibly well-curated set that appealed to everyone. Fans were delighted with their live performance of “Stable”, “Giants” and ‘”Rhythm of the Night” while trap enthusiasts enjoyed their rendition of “Pop Dat”. Dubstep phenomenon Kill the Noise was a definite fan favorite. Attendees packed out the Armory stage to see the American throw down a raging set in a blur of pyro, head-banging and glowing dance hoops. Several tracks he played included anthem “Kill It 4 The Kids”, latest release “Don’t Give Up On Me” with Illenium and the Seven Lions collaboration, “Cold Hearted”. Even though day 2 of the festival was unfortunately cut short, both headliners Miss K8 and Kaskade put on stellar performances nevertheless, with the latter wowing the fans with his hits "Disarm You" and "Something Something".

Rounding off the festival’s experience was the interactive areas that attracted crowds by the many. The LAZGAM laser tag in the Arena transformed an empty building into a dark battleground fit with obstacles, and hiding spots was a popular activity, while in the Arcade, the 360 Dome invited guests over to experience a whimsical visual display of motion pictures. A fine selection of food and beverages were scattered across the Bazaar, featuring a wide array of delicacies from local Thai noodles and German sausages to mango smoothies and fruity mocktails. Attendees were able to enjoy a meal, and some downtime in the Recovery Bay surrounded by a massive roller coaster structure and a grand view of Dropzone’s lit-up logo on the Ferris wheel. Also, the festival’s priority of guest comfort ensured that a cooling mist system by Mistify was in place across the grounds using a similar set up as festivals like Tomorrowland.
