DubVision is a Dutch Progressive House DJ and Producer duo, best known for their tracks "Backlash" (which took the #1 spot on Beatport’s main charts) and "Invincible" (with Firebeatz). They have performed at the world's biggest festivals such as Ultra, EDC and Tomorrowland.
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with DubVision, shortly before their performance at Mystic Valley Festival Thailand 2017.
Where are you located answering these questions?
In holland, in the studio, but also getting ready for our flight to Asia. First stop Bali!
You are brothers from the Netherlands, known worldwide as DJ & Production duo DubVision. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?
Steve got in touch with music during his 'clubbing' period. Victor was younger at the time so didn't go out much which was a good thing, because he started to make his very own music on the computer. Steve liked more house and techno, while Victor was a big fan of Tiesto (trance) back in the day. We started both playing on vinyl. Later we bought a simple CD player because we couldn't afford all tracks in vinyl.
You play and produce melodic Progressive House. How would you describe your own music, what is distinct about it?
We make melodic dance music. In our sets we add a pop twist, meaning we edit and mashup pop tracks with house tracks. Our sets are diverse, full of energy and a huge feel good vibe.
A lot of singing along! :)
You are best known for your track “Backlash”, which was released in 2014 and took the #1 spot on Beatport’s main chart, as well as “Invincible” (with Firebeatz). What other tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
Our remix we did for Discopolis- Commited to Sparklemotion on Axtone was one of the most played remixes during the high time of Swedish House Mafia.
Also 'I Found Your Heart' on Spinnin records is one that is a special to us. We wanted to make a track as a 'thank you' for our fans. So we came up with the name 'Heart' at first, after that we finished the track and wrote the vocals (by Emeni) in Stockholm.
What are you currently and focusing working on?
We just released 'Geht's Noch' on Musical Freedom, which is doing very well. 10th of February we're releasing our new track called 'Satellites'
We are working on some other projects, cant say to much about it but follow us on facebook, instagram and Twitter : Dubvisionmusic and you'll be the first one to find out what we've been up to.
You have played all over the world, at the most renowned clubs and the festivals. What were the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things that occurred during your performances?
Best gigs we played would be Ultra and Tomorrowland. There is never a bad gigs, every time we play for fans and that is so rewarding! The funniest was when 10 minutes before a gig in Japan we lost all our gear: headphones and usb's! We had 1 usb left in the hotel, saved some music on it as quick as possible and borrowed headphones from the warmup dj. Luckly nobody noticed and the show was amazing!
You have performed in Thailand at Together Festival 2015 and Warp Music Festival 2015, as well as on New Year’s Eve at Ztudio Live Hall. Did you keep your Bangkok performances – and Thailand in general - in good memory? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance at Mystic Valley Festival?
Thailand is amazing, as a country and to play in. People are so happy to see you and show a lot of energy during the set. Its always an absolute pleasure to play in Thailand.
For our Mystic Valley set we are gonna play a lot of new mashups, unreleased tracks and some new remixes! We've been in the studio for almost a month, so be prepared for a hugeee set!
