80/20: Bangkok's New Entry On Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2020
Modern Thai Restaurant 80/20 on Charoen Krung Road Makes a Debut on Asia's Best Restaurants 2020 list at number 47!
The 2020 list and eighth edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants by The World’s 50 Best website have finally been revealed on March 24 through a first-ever online virtual announcement due to the COVID-19 situation.
For those of you who may not know, the list consists of the 50 best restaurants across 10 countries from all over Asia. This year, Bukhara of New Delhi also finally makes its re-entry onto the list after falling short for 4 straight years. Considered one of the most popular dining destinations in the Indian capital, Bukhara happily claims the 45th place on the 2020 list.
Furthermore, there are up to 7 new entries in this year's Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list including Inua (#49) and Ode (#35) from Tokyo, Japan, Hansikgonggan (#34) from Seoul, South Korea, Zén (#28) from Singapore, JL Studio (#26) from Taichung, Taiwan, Sichuan Moon (#23) from Macau, China as the highest new entry, and 80/20 (Eighty Twenty) as Thailand’s only debutant on the list this year at number 47.
80/20 joins an elite group of six other restaurants in Thailand that have already been previously placed in the coveted top 50 selection including Bo.Lan (#39), Paste (#38), highest climber Sorn (#16), Gaa (#15), Le Du (#8), and Sühring (#6) as the highest-ranking restaurant on this year's list from Thailand.
80/20 maybe a newbie on the ranking this year, but they've been a part of Thailand's culinary scene for quite some time now. After their grand opening in 2015, the restaurant went through a major renovation and relaunched in 2018 with even more innovative twists into local ingredients 80/20 has been known for, yet with a more refined approach, earning them the much-deserved Michelin star in 2020.
The husband-and-wife team of Chef Napol Jantraget and Chef Saki Hoshino is behind the success of 80/20. The restaurant had switched from using an 80:20 ratio of local versus imported produce to using 100% local produce sourced from small-scale purveyors nationwide. The team handpicks every ingredient by themselves to make sure we get one of the best fine dining experiences that is just right in every way.
Furthermore, the team at 80/20 pays close attention freshness of each ingredient and makes a very detailed purchasing plan to make sure every product purchased is put to use and doesn't go to waste. This is why the restaurant only takes reservations and no walk-ins so they can precisely plan how much of each ingredient to order each day.
