Exclusive Interview with Paralyze Idea
2015 K-EDM is a 2-day Songkran Festival featuring Korea's most renowned DJs, among them the renowned up-and-coming DJ & Producer PARALYZE IDEA from Seoul. He is director of CLUB ARENA and has been Resident at the DJ Mag’s Top 100 clubs OCTAGON and ELLUI.
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Paralyze Idea, shortly before his performance at K-EDM Songkran Festival on 13th-14th April.
You are a renowned up-and-coming DJ & Producer from South Korea and Resident DJ at ELLUI (Seoul) - the #61 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 clubs. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place, how did you get into DJing and what did you do before Octagon?
Now, I’m a director at Club Arena (Seoul). Before that I have been DJing at Ellui, Octagon, The A and many more clubs. I started as a Hip Hop DJ. While working at the clubs, I heard electro music on another stage and it made me change the genre.
Your play & produce a mix of House, Deep, House, Tech House , Electro House, Progressive House and Indie Dance. How would you describe your sound in a few words?
All about House music. This word describe me. I produce House, Tech House and Deep House, and I like playing this genre too. But as a DJ, I'm playing all genres. For DJing I don’t limit myself to certain genres.
Your latest track “Give Me What You Got” is currently ranked #89 in Beatport’s Progressive House Chart. What other tracks, remixes or mix sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your sound?
Yup, ‘Give me what you got’ is even ranked up until #64 now haha… this track was supported by Dannic, Promise Land and more artists. Last year, I released the ‘Rush’ EP on Phunk Investigation’s label ‘Phunk Traxx’. The EP was also ranked in Beatport's House chart and supported by Bob Sinclar, Robbie Rivera and Federico Scavo. It was played on Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound Radio. It was very nice for me to receive this support. Starting out with this support, I have developed a lot. If you haven't heard my track yet, I would like to recommend the track ‘Deko-ze – My Shoe (Paralyze Idea Remix)’. It's my favourite amongst my tracks.
What was the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what was the funniest things ever occurred during any of your performances?
Last year, when I was invited to some club’s grand open party. I suffered a ridiculous situation. The timetable has changed 8 times, and when I was finally DJing at that club, one CDJ turned off due to an electrical problem.
What are you currently working and focusing on?
I always produce tracks. It is most important to me. Now I am producing tracks with amazing artists, and will release them on famous record labels. Ah, and now I am directing the new club in Seoul called Club Area.
What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife in your hometown Seoul? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?
Korean clubs are not limited by closing times restricted by law. Thus you can enjoy nightlife anytime. Example, ‘Club Arena’ where I'm working as a Director, opens until noon (12:00pm). Ah! If you want to listen to EDM, you must go to Gangnam. But if you want to listen to House, Tech House, Techno and more Underground genre, you must go to Itaewon.
You have played in Bangkok several times already, including Flix and Demo. Did you keep your shows here in good memory? What can the Bangkok crowd expect from your upcoming performance at K-EDM Songkran festival on 13th-14th April?
Yeah.. it was an amazing experience. While I visited BKK several times, I had made many good friends and I'm still in contact with those friends nowadays. I remember, when I was playing at Flix RCA.. maybe this day was a special day... there were so many people there at Flix RCA, that's a very nice memory. I hope to feel the passion of the Thais again, like it felt it back then. This time I will be with K-Pop too, so just enjoy, I have prepared a lot for the K-EDM Fest.
