Exclusive Interview with Apashe

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Apashe, shortly before his performance at an industrial warehouse on Sukhumvit 69 on 6th March.

You grew up in Brussels, the capital and largest city of Belgium. Following your studies in Electroacoustics in Canada you worked as sound engineer for a respected audio post-production studio. In 2005 you turned your day job in a career and started to release Trap & Bass Music under the artist name APASHE. Most of your productions contain a Hip Hop vibe and some elements of classical music. How would you describe your music in a few words?

2005 was the year I started producing music. I was actually way far from turning this hobby into a career. It only became a career 2 years ago. I think that’s an accurate description of what my music is. The core is electronic hip hop influenced by trap, dubstep and cinematic themes like orchestras.

What tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

Depending on your musical preferences, I would suggest my track No Twerk to someone who enjoys hip hop, or Black Gold for those who rather dubstep. Then I also would recommend The Grave with Black Tiger Sex Machine for electro lovers.

What’s on your agenda for 2015 and what are you currently working and focusing on?

So far my plans are to make as much music as possible while touring, explore new sounds and collaborate with inspiring artists. Also, I hope to make another dream come true, to work with a live orchestra.

What were the most memorable & the most terrible gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things occurring during your performances?

The most memorable gig was NYE in Brussels, I played along side Noisia. It was huge for me to play for such a big crowd with one of the most influential artists to me. As for the worse, I don’t think I have one that particularly stands out. I once had an awkward show, I got booked for a hip hop night without knowing where I landed and played my usual electronic music act. Nevertheless, I still managed to have fun.

You live in Montreal – the second-largest city in Canada and named a UNESCO “City of Design”. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?

Montreal has an incredible nightlife scene. There’s diverse parties for any genre from indie rock pop and Jazz to underground electronic music raves. I think everyone would find his or hers perfect fit. The best suggestion I could make, is to try getting in contact with locals to find the right spots to go to.

You will make your Thailand Debut on 6th March at a party taking place at an industrial warehouse on Sukhumvit 69. Have you ever visited Thailand before? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance?

I have never been to Thailand before but heard so many awesome stories. I’m so exited to see what it’s actually like! Expect a fun night rich in bass and head banging grooves!
