Exclusive Interview with Local Suicide

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Local Suicide, shortly before their performance at Black Pagoda on 31st December.

You are a Berlin-based couple that plays music together since 2007. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?

We both started getting in touch with music since our early teen years, while playing in several bands, working for local radio stations and going to underground parties. When we met in 2007 in Berlin and became a couple, we were both playing mainly indie, new wave and electro, but then got more and more into techno and house, as it usually happens when you move to Berlin.

You play and produce a mix of Nu Disco, Deep House and Techno. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?

Tough one! We are also never sure how to describe it. If we had to, we would say we play a mixture of Disco, House, Acid and Techno or just „Post-Disco“ and „Technodisco“, as we like to call it.

What tracks, remixes or mix sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

The most representative mix is our latest one which we did exclusively for a befriended blog called deathbyrepetition.co.uk.

What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

We usually have loads of fun when playing, so it is hard to pick just one gig, but one of the best ones was in Barcelona at the PullProxy night at the legendary Moog during Sonar Festival. The atmosphere was amazing, many of our friends were present and the crowd was going crazy!

The worst gigs are usually the ones with technical difficulties, but fortunately this doesn't happen often. One of the funniest ones was when we were djing at Sasazu in Prague. There was a topless beauty competition at the club on the same night and we had to share the same backstage / dressing room with all the contestants.

You live in Germany’s capital Berlin. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?

The nightlife in Berlin is massive! There is a broad selection for every taste and something going on every day and night. It is the city that never sleeps! We have been traveling a lot during the past years djing and can say with certainty that Berlin’s nightlife is just banging and for us simply the best. There are some other cities that are also really good for clubbing like Tel Aviv, Barcelona and Amsterdam, but Berlin remains on the top of our list. Our favorite clubs are Salon Zur Wilden Renate, in Friedrichshain, Stattbad in Wedding and Prince Charles and Arena in Kreuzberg. Our favorite bar is Cafe Futuro in Neukoelln.

On 31st December you will perform live in Bangkok at Black Pagoda. Have you visited Thailand before? What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?

It’s actually our first trip together to Thailand. We have been in your beautiful country for over a week now and already played some really fun gigs here on a couple of islands. From what we have seen so far there is a true party spirit with really good vibes all over! On the 31st we play at Black Pagoda and are really looking forward to it! We are going to play some deep trippy tunes and one thing is for sure: it is going to be a blast and everyone is going to sweat on the dancefloor! So be there or be square!
