Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Alex Morph, shortly before his performance at the Bank Club on 14th November.
How did you get in touch with electronic dance music – especially Trance - in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?
My very first contact with electronic music was within the Acid scene, years before Trance even started to exist the way we know it today. In fact I started dealing with all that musical stuff when I was 13 years young and still in school! My first bookings started at the age of 15-16. I had some resident jobs and gigs in Germany only and slowly started with all the production things too. Then it happened that I left the acid scene and found my place in Trance. I'm in this genre now since more than 15 years or so, and I'm happy inside it.
You play and produce a mix of Trance and Progressive. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
Energetic, emotional, uplifting, cool, powerful, melodic
Your track “Prime Mover” (released 2012 on Armada) was a huge success. What other tracks would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
That’s really hard to say actually, as I made and make many different kind of tracks and not everybody likes every style. Some people prefer my uplifting tracks with vocals, others like the instrumental club tracks. So there’s only one way to find out: browse my releases and remixes, listen yourself and decide what you like the most :-)
What are you currently working and focusing on? What’s on your agenda for the near future?
Next to my busy touring schedule, I’m focusing on producing my next artist album at the moment. It will be released in 2015 on Paul van Dyk’s VANDIT label. Until then, there will be some singles and remixes in the pipeline.
Your most recent performance here in Bangkok was in October 2012. On 14th November you will return to Bangkok. Did you keep your previous performance in good memory? What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?
Yes I have good memories from last time. The people were very respectful und friendly. My sets always depend on the vibe during the night. I have to read the audience and I have to react on their vibe to get their energy out. Sometimes I plan to play specific tracks, and during the set I end up playing completely different tracks. You never know what happens! The same will happen in Bangkok. As said: it depends on the atmosphere and the people.
