Exclusive Interview with Weiss

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Weiss, shortly before his performance at Glow Nightclub on 6th September.

How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?

Well i first discovered it around 1991/1992 when my brothers used to go to Club UK in London and bring back mix tapes. I would always steal them and listen to them on my walkman on the way to school or at home. I love everything about it. When you get a good tune i'll get that tingle in the back of the neck and i guess that's what got me into wanting to make music and dj.

Growing up from the age of 6/7 i would listen to Motown due to my mum playing it all the time and a lot of old disco was played in my house so a lot of these influences are within my music i produce.

You play and produce a mix of House, Deep- and Tech-House and Techno. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?

I like to say my music is House Music with balls. It's very chunky and chopped up sample based with a fat groove.

Your track “My Sister” – released in 2013 – was played on B-Traits’ BBC Radio 1 show and remained in Beatport’s Top 10 charts for over 4 months. What other tracks would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?

Well I’ve just finished remixing MK “Always” on Defected.Ministry Of Sound and the track by Tube & Berger “Come On Now”(Set It Off) on FFRR so they would be a something to check out of my latest e.p. on Toolroom Records called Weiss City Vol.3.

What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

My best gig to date would be playing at Fabric in London. I’ve always wanted to play there and it was real honor as it’s quite hard to get into the club.

I’ve never really had a bad one so I can’t answer that.

I think when we were coming back from a gig and we got into the hotel very drunk and decided to knock on everyone’s door but little did we know a dog convention was going on in that part of the town so we had a lot of dogs barking.

You live in London. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?

I would always recommend paying a visit to Shorditch as the bars and records shops are really cool but for me you would have to go to Fabric in Farringdon. For me if you want to go to a proper club with real house music and great crowds then this is the place. Be prepared to get lost.

On 6th September you will perform live in Bangkok at Glow Nightclub. Have you visited Thailand before? Will your performance be your Bangkok debut? What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?

This will be my Bangkok debut. Expect to be rocked, we’re going to have a great time and you’re going to listen to some proper House Music with balls. It’s going to be a great night so get your glad rags on and let yourself go and mainly, have fun!!!
