Exclusive Interview with NYTA

Exclusive Interview with NYTA

NYTA hails not from the Big Apple, but from Bristol, UK. His real name is Mensah Anderson, who is also the seasoned producer that you probably know simply as Mensah. NYTA has already proven himself as a talent on the decks with sets across the world & two exclusives mixes: one for Dazed & Confused & ‘the one’ for FACT mag that finished in the top 20 best FACT mixes of the year.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Mensah Anderson, shortly before his performance at Glow Nightclub on 18th April.

Under your artist name Mensah – which is also your actual first name - you have gained recognition as Dubstep producer and released several original tracks & remixes. With your new alias “New York Transit Authority” you strike a new path - how would you describe that new sound of yours?

The new sound is a lot darker & forward thinking. It mixes influences from House, Techno & Bass music which is great because it mixes well with the sort of music I like to DJ out at the moment.

What tracks would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music, as an introduction to Mensah and New York Transit Authority?

My favourite Mensah track is probably Digital Dreamer and my favourite New York Transit Track is '95.

What are you currently working and focusing on?

I'm currently working on my next New York Transit Authority EP for Lobster Boy. I'm only doing N.Y.T.A stuff at the moment as it was too hard to keep switching between aliases!

What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

The best show I've played was out in Venezuela just because of the sheer beauty of the surroundings. The worst is a tough one but probably one of my early shows as a teenager in a local pub in bristol! Lots of funny things from being handed a potato whilst playing to a girl running across the stage naked.

On 18th April you will perform live here in Bangkok at Glow Nightclub. Have you visited Thailand before? Will it be your Bangkok debut? What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?

I have visited Thailand before. I played a Mensah show for my good friend Dragon at Grease, I really liked all of the LED lights covering the walls & ceiling in there. That was back in Jan 2013 so really looking forward to returning with my new project. If you take a trip to my website you can hear a little of what to expect… www.nytaofficial.com
