Exclusive Interview with GUTI
"Drawing up his own way" is the philosophy of Guti. He shone in the world of Jazz at early age, he demonstrates to be a sensible & intense pianist, with his own language, playing in some of the biggest stadiums & winning golden records in South America in the last decade as a rock musician. In 2006, life take him to a new path: House music. Curious, ironic & creative, fusing electronic music with his jazz & latin roots, Guti quickly became one of the most eager & interesting producers of the Latino American house scene. He shown his amazing live set in the best clubs of the world performing as a Desolat Artist.
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Guti, shortly before his performance at Glow Nightclub on 14th December.
You are from Argentina, with a background as classically trained pianist, a past as highly successful rock musician– and these days touring the world as a DJ. What has awakened your interest to become a DJ in the first place?
It is ALL PART of the same thing for me. Music is music. Curiosity brings you to different places and I always try to follow.
You produce a unique mix of House music with influences of Swing and Jazz. How would you describe your own music in in a few words?
It is honest music made by the heart, without many things in mind, trying to express myself.
Out of all tracks you have produced, which would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
There are many and i'm changing all the time, any of my album. My favorite is "Sun", which is not the music i play in a club or sometimes yes, but it's a beautiful song.
Your debut album “Patio de juegos” was released in 2011. What are you currently working and focusing on and what’s on your agenda for the near future?
I just finished my new album, rompecorazones, that comes out in March. I'm so excited. Been working on this almost two years and now finally it's coming out. 2014 will be touring the album with a live show all around the world.
What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?
There are so many amazing gigs, every night is different. :) I try to enjoy every night and give it all. The worse ones I save it for me. :)
What are the essential things you need to have with you at all times and what are the things you miss when you are on tour?
I travel with books all the time, and magazines (science magazines!) and a notebook to write down ideas. I miss my friends and my girlfriend, and my pianos!
What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife in your hometown Buenos Aires? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?
Buenos Aires is so big. Try to get lost. There is like 4000 different Buenos Aires! Go out there and try to discover.
On 14th December you will perform live here in Bangkok Glow Nightclub. Have you visited Bangkok before? Will it be your Bangkok debut? What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?
I've never been to Thailand and I’m so excited! For the gig, for the people, for the food... and then I’m staying 4 days, so i hope to have many crazy stories to tell when i come back! xxx
