Exclusive Interview with Jordy Dazz
A college drop out turned standard setting beacon to 21st century club music, Jordy Dazz has conquered a long and winding road enroute to his global accession. Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Jordy Dazz, shortly before his performance at WIP168 on 10th October.
You got your first mixer when you were 10 years old and at the age of 15 you already had your first residency at a small club in your hometown in Holland. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and what had awakened your interest to become a DJ?
EDM has always been around for me. It started becoming popular in Holland in the early 90’s, and since I am from ’84, I’ve been listening to it a lot when I was younger. I’m not really sure why I wanted to start dj’ing, but I was just highly fascinated by all the electronics you could use for playing and mixing music.
Your tracks “OMG!”, “DRUM FAIL”and “Claymore” have been highly successful. Out of all of the tracks you have made, which tracks would you recommend as an introduction to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
I think Claymore is the track that reflects me the most. It has a great groove and beats, and I still love the drop in that one.
You play a mix of House, Progressive House and Big Room. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
Danceable, dope beats, female-friendly (!) and peak-time playable!
You run a popular podcast called “Dope & Dirty”. What can you tell us about the concept of the podcast and where can people listen to it?
Dope & Dirty is a monthly show. Every month I carefully select tracks that I love myself, and I want other people to hear about. I like to build the one hour show up, so I always start a bit easier, and end up heavier. What are you currently working on? What’s on your agenda for the near future?
I’m currently working on a lot new music. There’s a new solo track coming out on Hysteria this month, I’ve got a collab with Bassjackers out soon, and I just signed a new track on Revealed Recordings, which is a collab with Australian guy Jimi Frew. Besides that, I’m working on some more collabs with guys like Knife Party and MOTi, and of course new solo originals..
You travel a lot. What are the essential things you need to have with you at all times and what are the things you miss when you are on tour?
My Beats Executive Headphones are always with me, and my Macbook of course. The things I miss the most when on tour is probably some normal sleep!
This year you have played at Amnesia (Ibiza) alongside Knife Party and at Starbeach (Greece) alongside Showtek. What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?
Not so sure about the worst gig, but that must’ve been somewhere around when I was 15 years old. Back then I played birthday parties and receptions to make a little buck. Those weren’t always the best crowds to play for haha!
One of the best gigs I did was last summer at Starbeach, Greece with Showtek. The crowd was simply amazing!
One of the funniest things was when I played in a small café some years ago, and a guy asked me to play a track he loved. When I played it, he gave me a hand and left a €50,- note.
On 10th October you will make your Bangkok debut at WIP168. Have you visited Thailand before?
No! It’s gonna be my first time and I can’t wait to experience it for myself!
What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming debut performance?
A lot of energy and of course great music! Looking forward!
