Exclusive Interview with Pretty Pink
Pretty Pink is a benefit for ear and eye - her charm, her appearance and her phenomenal flair for finding the right sound: these are the bases for making a name for yourself with "talent" as opposed to mere "looks" in today's still male dominated scene. A groovy, house-orientated to electric-minimal sound with the right amount of sex appeal, as well as her provocative, glamorous and inspiring charisma behind the turntables, send the masses - and the promoters - into ecstasies. Despite her young age and today's digital age she prefers to work, totally "old school", with records.
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Pretty Pink, shortly before her performance at L'Appart (Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit) on 27th September.
You first emerged as a DJ in 2008 with the publication of the CD "God is a DJane" Volume 1, which you mixed yourself. Would you share its story with us?
Oh that is really a quick story, they ask me to mix the compilation… It was the first Girls-Compilation… I was honored and did it!
Despite your young age you prefer to work with vinyl records. How come?
I prefer to work with vinly cause of the haptics, you can feel the music in your hand. But in these days everyone needs to improve so I also play with other equipment.
How is it to be an attractive female on the rise in a mainly male dominated business? Is it a gift or curse?
In first place it is both, you get more closely watched if you can mix right. But you also have more opportunitis because good female DJs ar very raw.
Your career has already taken you to Morocco, France, Italy, Holland, Canada, Lebanon, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Brazil and Switzerland. What was your personal career highlights so far?
That is a hard question, every country has it’s own charm, so it would be unfair to say this one is better. I had a lot of nice & incredible gigs outside Germany. So I always looking forward to go more places.
You travel a lot. What are the essential things you need to have with you at all times and what are the things you miss when you are on tour?
Necessary are my iPhone, my Headphones & good music. ☺ To communicate with the people I love… so I don’t miss anything if I travel with this things.
What was the best and the worst gig you ever played?
The worst first, it is a gig, which gets canceled and I can not play. The best gig is hard to define. I love all the gigs where the people go with my music and feel what I want to transfer.
You play a mix of House and Deep House. How would you describe your music on your own words?
My music is a selection of deeply loving melody house music.
Your Soundcloud offers a variety of Live- and DJ-Mixes, as well as original tracks and remixes you produced yourself. What tracks and/or mixes would recommend to those that are not yet familiar with your music?
Daft Punk vs. Daughter Cover – Get Lucky (Pretty Pink Edit), it is my interpretation of “Get Lucky” in deep house version. Now 3 month online and over 480.000 people all over the world listen to this track.
On 27th September you will perform live here in Bangkok at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit. Have you visited Thailand before? Will your performance be your Bangkok debut?
It's my first time… I am very happy to be there.
Are you adventurous if it comes to food? Do you try the local dishes of the countries you travel to, or do you usually eat what you know from home? Will you give spicy Thai food a chance?
I have been here one day now and already tried out some Thai food – I love it!
What can Bangkok expect of your performance at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit?
I expect a nice event with lot’s of people who can feel my music & have a great night.
