Exclusive Interview with Trus'me

Exclusive Interview with Trus'me

With his love for music tracing way back to an early age by dabbling with various instruments and then moving on to develop a passion for record collecting, Trus’me found his calling after learning the art of mixing and sample digging. Surrounded by the heads of Manchester and its deep rooted music scene, one couldn’t deny that it was an effortless task to be exposed to good music from all genres, thus explaining his constantly evolving tastes as evident in his eclectic DJ sets as well as in his uniquely, diverse productions.

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Trus'me, shortly before his performance at Grease on Saturday 16th March.

You come from Jazz, Soul and Hip Hop. How did you get in touch with electronic music in the first place and made you start to create it and not just consume?

Well If we really want to break it down then my musical routes cane from Indie music, Stone Roses, Charlatans that kind of thing. My taste has evolved constantly through out the years from the friends around me to the club I’ve visited. There has always been an underlying element of techno and house in my production but as of late I have wanted to experiment with the more traditional stripped back method of this genre. All music whether created on a drum machine of synth or computer is electronic , unless you are actually playing a hand crafted instrument.

How would you describe your music in a few simple words?

Emotive, sensual and tantric.

For those that are not familiar with your music yet, what tracks should they listen to as an introduction?

I would work your way through each of the 3lp’s “Working Nights’ , ‘In The Red’ and the new ‘Treat Me Right’ to understand where I have come musically and what to expect musically on a dancefloor. Your best bet is to head over to www.soundcloud.com/trusme to take it all in as well as my imprint Prime Numbers. House of fun!

In February you just released your third album ‘Treat Me Right’. What can you tell us about the album?

I wanted to keep the sound anoligital (analogue & digital) embracing new technologies but keeping the essence of that classic studio production feel. I had all the usual suspects - 909's Juno's, Pro One's, and all that jazz but I tried to not restrain myself with only that and dived head first into the world of Spectrasonics and the quite unbelievable sound that is generated from the boys at Universal Audio. Like my label, Prime Numbers, my palette is wide so you will hear influences from minimal masters such as DBX, Baby Ford to Hurley, Drexciya, and of course Detroit.

What’s next? What are you looking forward to in 2013?

Touring the LP and releasing the many new producers I have coming on my label Prime Numbers. 2013 is a very exciting year for me as a producer and as a label owner.

What was the best and the worst gig you ever played?

The best gigs are always my own parties 1RedlLight which I tour around the world, you can find out more at www.1redlight.com, the worst gigs have always been when I have reluctantly filled in for another DJ, as they could not make the date. This is never a good idea, especially when they are expecting a Blonde Russian Dj, Ha.

What was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?

I once played at Cookies Berlin after a horrendous tour schedule, I thought to myself I’ll just rest my head for one second on my record bag. Next I was awakened to a booing crowd and an angry promoter wondering why on earth I was asleep head down in my record bag.

On 16th March you will make your Bangkok debut and perform live at Grease. What can Bangkok expect from your performance?

I like to take you on a journey of all that is new and good in the world of house and techno. With nods to the past and lashings of my own and Prime Numbers material new and upcoming.

Thailand is famous for its food, especially its spicy food. Are you adventurous if it comes to food? Will you give it a try?

I’m a real foodie and have visited your beautiful country many times before, I’m as daring as any and will be diving head deep into your culinary dishes yum yum
