“I’ll be on the road fosho…” said Fiixd to the screaming Hip-Hop fans as he warms the stage with his very own track “Fosho”. He was then joined by talented rapper Youngohm before the two performed a number of hits, both their own and of their fellow artists, for the fans in the brand-new Khaosan club Susie Q to enjoy. The event “Youngohm + Fiixd = YO Tourlife at Susie Q presented by Blaq Lyte” just this past Friday 9th November was a party to remember, especially for the Hip-Hop fans that had a chance get wild to some of the greatest Hip-Hop tracks and witness a performance by two of Bangkok’s most popular rap stars at the moment.

Anyone who knows even a little about Bangkok’s nightlife scene will be familiar with the carefree, anything-goes vibe of Khaosan Road’s infectious atmosphere. Teeming with tourists from around the globe, the road offers countless of reasonably priced food and drinks from market stalls, clubs, and bars (compared to the city nightlife scene in Ekkamai and Thonglor) and mainstream music blasting from both sides of the streets. It’s definitely something you can’t find elsewhere in Bangkok. Now, however, there’s been a new addition to the Khaosan party scene that might give you something a little different than the usual. It’s a place where you can hang out with your friends (no dress code!) and enjoy a nice selection of drinks, quality music, and absorb some Hip-Hop culture all in one place.

Aside from sharing a similar name, the Susie Q you see today is very different from the original Susie Pub that had been on the location for over 20 years. After inviting Blaq Lyte (the same team behind Thonglor area’s famous Hip-Hop nightclub “Blaq Lyte” that closed down on May 2018) over to Khaosan for a collaboration in creating a new music scene in the area. The goal is to give Hip-Hop culture in Khaosan area a push by introducing a modern Hip-Hop through music, art, and fashion. Susie Q aims to blend popular mainstream tracks together with some old-school and underground sounds that we often hear at Blaq Lyte to create a new experience.

Coming from the original Blaq Lyte team, we’d expect some top-notch Hip-Hop from Susie Q everyday of the week. With a residential DJ line-up that includes Keigo, Vnazz, Ralphy. Wav, Wanton Witch, MYP, ARB, and JWP, Susie Q delivers us a daily fresh dose of Hip-Hop for us to enjoy Monday-Sunday. Not only that, the team is always on the outlook of bringing top local and international Hip-Hop acts for a special performance at the club from time to time. Past collaborations and parties saw artists like Places + Faces, Phum Viphurit, Maiyarap, StarRo, Darius, Kartell, Eno x Dirty, Pyra, Kritbangkok, NoteP, ADR GateKeeper, Youngohm, Fiixd, and Twopee take the stage at Susie Q.

The contrast between the modern music genre and the vintage-style classic decoration makes Susie Q highly absorbing the moment you walk up to the door. Inside, you’ll find the original brick walls and folding doors from the popular Susie Pub from decades ago. The room is filled with wooden furnitures and the walls are dressed with black and white photographs of singers, actors, and designers as well as vintage newspapers and posters. The team also managed to maintain the classic 60s vibe with a giant disco ball and chandeliers in front of the DJ booth. Illuminated with distinct red lights, the dance-floor comes alive all night through.

The drinks menu offers a fine variety of upscale refreshments at a friendly price including whole bottles of whiskey, gin, vodka, brandy, tequila, and rum starting at 1,400 THB or 190 THB by the glass. There’s also over 40 different cocktails, aperitifs, shots, beers, mocktails, juices, and soft drinks to enjoy if you’re looking for an alternative to hard liquors for the night.

If you’re starting to get used to all the bar hopping, street foods, and tattoo parlours, this new Hip-Hop party experience should give you something fresh to look into. Whether it’s “Hump Day” (Wednesdays) or the usual buzzing Fridays, you can always go and catch some awesome music from the DJs at Susie Q.
