High Life Highlight: 5 Awesome Rooftop Bars Near Khaosan Road
Rooftops bars have a special place in many people’s hearts. The idea of being high above the ground, sipping an ice cold one among friends and beautiful strangers has a certain appeal to it. The allure of such an experience alone makes seeking out the perfect rooftop bar a must-do for anyone, anywhere.
Now imagine a rooftop bar that exists in some of your most favorite areas. Not only are you about to enjoy an awesome time away from the bustling streets, but you are also about to be doing it right in the heart of your favorite haunts.
Like many who visit Thailand, Khaosarn Road is that spot - the standard go-to area and when looking to a drink a little above road level, here are 5 awesome rooftop bars that are worth checking out!
At-Mosphere Rooftop Cafe
Not far off the yellow brick road that is Khaosan, a rooftop “cafe” sits high above a boutique hostel called The Secret Service. Do not let the word cafe fool you, At-Mosphere Rooftop Cafe is a proper restaurant with drinks for adults. To be clear, that means beers and cocktails.
The awesome thing about this spot is that you have a view that is as stunning as it gets. On any given day, the well-revered Golden Mount in Wat Saket temple can easily be seen standing tall within the horizon. That view alone is worth the trip up the building, but their food will definitely make your stay a little longer.
Thai favorite dishes are all available and are as tasty as it can get. Expect a very local crowd, quite unusual for Khaosan Road area and very relaxing live music that gets more fun as the night progresses.
Jham Jun Bar & Bistro
As the saying goes, “a bar that is hard to find, is a bar that is worth your time”. Actually, we just made that up, but it is true nevertheless. Jham Jun Bar & Bistro is located on the rooftop of a rundown building on the corner of Phra Sumen Road, no more than a 10min walk from Khaosarn Road.
To find it, you will have to walk into the building and get yourself into an elevator with a sliding door. Once you arrive at the top, you will have to find the stairs that will lead you up to the rooftop, and behold your newest favorite spot.
The bar overlooks the Pom Phra Sumen, an 18th-century fortress that sits right next to the Chao Phraya River. Enjoy that view while you kick back a few drinks and fill yourself with some tasty Thai dishes. You can sit on either the lower or upper deck - but be prepared, the locals who frequent the place are extremely friendly.
The Bank Club & Restaurant
Many rooftop bars will allow you to kick-back and relax while really taking your time to appreciate your surrounding atmosphere. Sometimes, that is literally all you want. But other times, after chilling for a while, the drinks start giving you a small kicker, and your dance bugs start crawling.
Of course, by then you are only left with easy-listening lounge music, and you may be too lazy to walk anywhere. Fear not! The Bank Club & Restaurant is a trendy rooftop hot spot that has two designated zones.
The Chill Zone is an outdoorsy rooftop with ample seating and a pool table for you to hang-out and catch up with your friends. Order yourself some food here as the kitchen serves up a mean variety of dishes suitable for all you drinkers.
The Club area located inside plays a variety of funky beats that will get you dancing all night long. Who would have thought, 2-in-1!
The Roof Bar & Restaurant
A wet rooftop party makes its way into the list of the top 5 most annoying things, alongside bad traffic, mosquitoes, toilets without butt-sprays, and hot weather.
Some places attempt to fix this problem with a fancy (flimsy) sliding roof/cover that may or may not cover you from the rain. As unpredictable as Bangkok weather can be at times, a rooftop bar with a solid roof may come in handy.
The Roof Bar, located on the 3rd floor of the Center Point Plaza & Hotel, is your best option for a properly-covered rooftop bar that will shelter you from rain or shine. Having been around for a long time, The Roof Bar and its vibrant crowd often give visitors a guaranteed night out.
It is your choice how you choose to have fun here - sit facing out and watch people walk around Khaosarn Road or sit facing in and groove together with the live-band playing nightly.
Samsen 8 Rooftop Cafe & Hostel
About 15-minutes from Khaosan Road, the hostel is located on Samsen 8 Alley and is home to a rooftop bar that will take you away from the hustle and bustle of the Khaosarn Road area.
Designed to look hip and welcoming at the same time, you can often find hostel guests and locals mingling beside brightly-lit neon paintings at the Samsen 8 Rooftop Cafe. More often than not, shots get passed around in exchange for friendship, and every time it seems to work.
The food is also extremely appetizing and compliments any drinking crowd at very reasonable prices. As more people start to know about this new gem in the area, expect it to fill up very fast.
