The Bangkok Countdown Festival 2017: Thailand’s Biggest EDM Countdown Party
2017 is about to come to a close and for most people, the period around New Years is a time for celebration - a time for friends and family to come together and look back at the year that was, to remember the good and leave behind the bad. This is also a time for many people to reward themselves for a year well-done by doing something fun. For those bored of the “mundane countdowns” at the all too familiar locations, that may mean taking extended trips to an exotic destination or finding a spot where they can just immerse at the moment over a succulent meal. The options are endless.
But this year, Bangkok will be adding another option to the roster of things to do during New Years that is not a “mundane countdown”. S2O Factory, the team behind S2O Songkran Music Festival, proudly presents The Bangkok Countdown (TBC), Thailand’s newest landmark countdown event that has been curated just for EDM lovers that want to countdown together in style. Being organized at a vast space along Rama 9, The Bangkok Countdown will allow revelers to bring in 2018 over 2-days between 30-31 December 2017 together with some of the world’s top DJs without having to travel out of the city center.
There is much to be excited about. Getting to relax and let loose at an event where awesome food and great production (fireworks!) is guaranteed sounds awesome, but one thing in particular worth mentioning is the opportunity to get to spend quality time with the top DJs as if they were your friends who you are counting down with. And if we were to really treat them as our friends, we should take to heart some of the things we can learn from them through their music to remind us how we can make 2018 another epic year to remember!
Here are 10 songs from the 10 top international DJs coming to TBC that have 10 messages worthy of bringing with you into 2018. This is tattoo worth stuff!
Afrojack (DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs #8)
''Live life to the fullest no matter what!''
With another year quickly going by, you realize how short 365 days can be. The Dutch hit maker’s “No Tomorrow” song will continue to remind you that there is no better time to do something than now. If you have dreams, execute it because the perfect moment you are waiting for is already here.
Chris Lake
''If you do not even try, then there is a 0% chance of accomplishing something.''
No matter how impossible you think something is, making an effort to start will at least make your chances of accomplishing it greater than 0%. Chris Lake and his banger “Give Her Right Back” shows that even when faced with a task that may feel impossible to accomplish (like asking for another man’s girl), opening your mouth to ask is the first step in the right direction.
FEEL
''Always look your best, because if you are at the beach and drowning, chances are the hotter person gets saved first.''
The funny thing about looking your best is that it somehow always makes you feel your best. DJ FEEL’s remix of “Amazing” by Inna is a good way to remember that even on the bad days, taking care of yourself is an important task that you must never forget to do. A healthy exterior will lead to a healthy interior.
Knife Party
''Every day is a new beginning!''
Get uplifted and realize that every day is a new chance for you to go out there and make a difference. Knife Party’s “Begin Again” will remind you not to fear the mistakes that you made because you should always learn from it and take it with you to try again. The best kinds of lessons are mistakes, so be strong!
KUTSKI
''There is always a place and time to get a little crazy.''
Knowing when to be serious and when to have fun is a skill that many people need to have to lead a balanced life. KUTSKI’s hard-hitting remix of “Bananas” by D.O.D. is your key to staying sane throughout a year that may throw curveballs at you from all sides. Be bold to have fun when you need it.
LOOKAS
''Everyone does crazy things for love – you are not alone.''
When you find yourself going above and beyond the norm to do something for someone you care about, you are perfectly normal. LOOKAS’s “Alarm” will allow you to lift-off and take those that you love to new heights without a care in the world. Do you. If it makes you happy by doing it, more power to you!
Mark Sixma
''Alone time is great, but missing people is a normal part of life.''
Self-love is a skill that everyone should master as it is a strength to have, but the ability to miss other people is not a weakness that should be avoided. Mark Sixma, with the help of Emma Hewitt, in “Missing” normalizes the emotions that we as humans have. Missing someone is the kind of positive energy that this world can do more with.
MOSIMANN (DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs #93)
''Love is beautiful. But letting go of lost love is as healthy as it gets.''
We live, and we love. It is as important to have the capacity to love as it is to have the capacity to know when is time to let go of it. MOSIMANN’s “Never Let You Go” makes sure you will keep a note tucked under your pillow that when you find someone that is good for you to keep them. But if it turns out that you were wrong, letting go is as powerful as it gets.
RIOT TEN
''If you want to be a head-banger, a neck-brace is your best friend.''
Sometimes, the only reminders you need are practical ones and not so much groundbreaking emotional ones. RIOT TEN’s “Rail Breaker” is a testament to those who go to festivals to tear it up and break it down. When you are near the railings and going crazy with your crew, make sure you do it to the fullest – just prepare a neck-brace for the neck-aches later on!
WIWEK
''Being the best version of yourself is what 2018 is about!''
Time is up for just being the normal version of you. Let 2018 be the year that you make it a goal to be the absolute best upgrade for yourself. WIWEK’s “Best of Me” is the best reminder for you to dance all your negativities away and drag into the new year only the good stuff. Be happy, be bold, be the best you for yourself and everyone around you!
