Sevenn Gives Insight on New Track with Alok, Dream Collaboration, and Excitement for Upcoming Asia Tour
It only took a mere two years for American DJ-duo Sevenn to establish their status within the dance music community. Following the result of the brothers meeting Brazilian DJ Alok in 2016 is an immensely catchy chart topping house track, “BYOB”. Since then, Sevenn has gone on to play Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, Brazilian super club Green Valley, and many other exciting venues as well as release hit single “BOOM” with Tiesto. The duo will be returning to BONE Pattaya on their upcoming Asia tour, and we had the pleasure of interviewing them prior to the show. Read on to find out more about their new track with Alok, dream collaboration, and performing at Tomorrowland.
Tell us more about how you both started DJ-ing and producing! Was it something you’ve always wanted to do? How would you describe SEVENN music?
We were both raised in a very secluded missionary community where we could only listen to music from the community, so we had a studio (in this community) and that’s how we started! I can remember recording vocals with Sean as young as 6 or 7.
The DJ bit started with Sean leaving the community at 16 and playing underground psy-trance raves lol! Later on we teamed up and here we are! Sevenn’s music can be described as energetic and real, we really put a lot of effort and love into what we do. The most important thing for us has always been an exchange of energy with the people that listen to our music. It’s what we live for.
Could you share a bit on how “BOOM” with Tiesto came about? The addition of Gucci Mane’s vocal definitely added an extra edge to the already catchy track!
Tiesto heard the idea, loved it, and we worked on it together from there. We never knew the song was going be as big as it got though, it was truly insane to see it played at every major festival, not to mention all the dance videos we got! Gucci Mane’s vocals took it to the next level for sure, such an honor to have him on the track.
If you could choose any producer/singer/act to do a collaboration with, who would it be?
The Chainsmokers or Kashmir, I feel we could come up with something really whacky over a few beers and cold pizza.
Following “BYOB”, we hear there’s a new tune between you and Alok in the works… are you able to share anything about it?
Just that it’s gonna be preposterously massive, expect insanity!
How did it feel being back at Tomorrowland last Friday after your debut DJ performance there exactly a year ago?
So surreal....the festival represents everything good in this world. It’s probably the happiest place we’ve ever been to in our lives.
There’s a SEVENN Asia tour coming up - and we’re excited about your upcoming show at BONE in Pattaya this month! What are some of the things you’re looking forward to on this tour?
It’s so exciting to see new countries like South Korea and Indonesia, it’s also our first time playing in Tokyo as well. Thailand is one of our favorite countries in the world! We actually changed our flight and are heading to a couple of islands like koh phi phi (the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever been to). The vibe at BONE Pattaya is so incredible, also one of the best sound systems we’ve played with, such power...and we like to go hard!
