Where are you answering these questions?
I’m at the studio in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
You are a seasoned DJ and producer with close to 3 decades of experience, You were awarded as “Best Trance DJ” at the DJ Awards in 2005 & 2007, and recent recognitions include nominations as “Best Trance DJ” at the IDMAs in 2015 and 2016. What were the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things that occurred during any of your performances?
Oh wow, I think I’ve had many great shows…and less great shows… A lot of the times the less great shows come with the process of getting to the shows…logistic problems, technical problems…. I try and always be positive and count it as a day in the office …. I remember once that on my way to a show I got stuck in a snow storm. Looking back it was like being in a comedy show, but at that moment it wasn’t funny :D
How would you describe your own music, what is distinct about it?
Ferry Corsten music is definitely trance, but since I use my name, I allow myself a bit more creativity in my productions which means that I produce a bit more eclectic within the trance genre. Gouryella is an alias of Ferry Corsten. Gouryella is a way more pure sound of trance with a nostalgic touch.
Your track “Anahera” was awarded “Tune Of The Year” in 2015 by A State Of Trance. What other tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
Listen to the Soundcloud of Ferry Corsten. You’ll find the latest singles, releases, and mixes on it.
What are you currently working and focusing on?
I’m currently working on my artist album that I’m looking to release in 2017. It’s been a labor of love, and I can’t wait to finish and release it.
You have played in Bangkok before, including a festival performance at Edition Bangkok 2009, and a club show at LED Club RCA in 2012. Did you keep those performances – and Thailand in general – in good memory? What can we expect from your upcoming performance at Transmission?
I love Bangkok. It’s an amazing city with passionate people. I always feel welcome and at home when I go there. The trance scene has definitely grown there over the years. It’s wonderful to see that Bangkok has embraced the sound and understands it. I see it from the faces of clubbers and fans when I play. I’ll be doing my Gouryella show in Transmission and looking forward to the show.
