Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Vini Vici, shortly before their performance at Live RCA Bangkok on 21st January.
Where are you answering these questions?
Home sweet home, at my city Afule at the north of Israel. Always back to my little warm house in between weekend shows.
You are a DJ & Producer duo from Israel, ranked by Beatport as the #3 Top Artist of 2014 and Infected Mushroom named you as one of the best upcoming PsyTrance artists at the moment. How did each of you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place, how did you get into DJing and music production, how did you meet and what made you team up?
Well, it's been a long time since 2014, we actually ended up best-selling PsyTrance artist at Beatport for 2015 and 2016.
In Israel, post-trance is the leading electronic music for over 20 years, is basically a subculture for us. So, this was our first electronic dance music experience. Since then, we were hooked to collecting music and organizing small underground raves in the woods. At some point we met each other, as we are both from the same city with the same friend’s circles. We had a good connection and since then the rest is history.
You play and produce Psychedelic Trance with a Progressive touch. How would you describe your own music, what is distinct about it?
We try to stay diverse with our music, and don’t limit ourselves too much to one style, but no doubt, our biggest trademark is the tribal elements and chants, with lots of gate works and pumping sound.
You are best known for your track “Great Spirit” with the legendary Armin Van Buuren - which holds the #1 spot of Beatport’s PsyTrance chart – as well as your remix of “Hilight Tribe - Free Tibet”, which hit the #2 spot on Beatport’s main chart, and is the first PsyTrance track ever to enter the Beatport Main Top 10 chart. What other tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with you?
Well, our "The Tribe", "Namste" track and "Universe Inside Me" are really friendly or if you are more into harder style "Veni Vidi Vici" or "Colors" will do the work.
For sets you are always free to visit our Soundcloud, or YouTube channels.
What is on your agenda for the near future and what are you currently working and focusing on?
Around 80% of 2017 is already booked, that means it's gonna be a pretty busy year. Dealing with most of the big festival around, pretty sure you will hear our name here and there this year.
You play over 220 shows all over the world each year, including the biggest music festivals, such as Ultra, A State Of Trance, Transmission, Tomorrowland, EDC, Sunburn, and many more. What were the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things that occurred during any of your performances?
Every show has its charm, can't choose just one, all the events you mention up here were amazing. We can say that the production and lights show of "Transmission" was freaking amazing!
Worse one, hmmmmmmmmm, well last 2 years all events where so good I truly don’t remember a bad show, even imp pretty sure there was few.
Funniest thing, was at my last show at japan, when a person (probably seriously high) just jump into the stage and go kamikaze-style on our DJ booth while screaming in Japanese “I’m happy” “I'm a DJ” hehehehe.
You will make your Thailand debut at Live RCA Bangkok, organized by the TLT crew. Have you visited Thailand before? What can people expect from your upcoming performance?
Yes, I visited for a short vacation in the past, but never played as Vini Vici, lots new music' special edits and positive vibes are on the menu :)
