Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Dannic, shortly before his performance at ONYX on 29th December.
Where are you answering these questions?
From my home in the Netherlands, we had an amazing show in Amsterdam on Saturday closing out the 538 Jingle Ball!
You are a Dutch DJ and Producer, currently ranked on the #70 spot of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?
I started off playing in bars and cafes around where I lived, Café Bruxelles was really the first place that I learnt everything and really ‘caught the bug’. Then, I won the Dancetour competition in 2009 and everything changed from there.
You play and produce Electro House and Progressive House. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
Groovy, energetic and I like to think my music brings people together.
You are best known for your tracks "Radical" (with Dyro), "Survivors" (with Hardwell) and "Dear Life" (with Bright Lights). What other tracks would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
I’m really proud of my releases this past year, it’s some of my favourite work, tracks like ‘Light The Sky’ that have a radio-friendly sound, working with great vocalists, that is what I love to do. Keeping my music full of energy and groovy like I said earlier is important, but also to connect with people tracks need to have emotion.
So to come back to your question, I’d say ‘Light The Sky’, ‘Music’ that I did with Merk & Kremont and Duane Harden and also ‘Move’ that I did with We AM.
What are you currently working and focusing on? What’s on your agenda for the near future?
I’m focusing on new music, an exciting collab for the new year and really continue with Fonk. I want the guys that we release music from to feel like they are part of a family and to keep releasing music I’m proud of. We also just hosted our first Fonk party at ADE in October which was amazing, excited to host some more!
You have played at the biggest clubs and festivals all over the world. What were the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things ever occurred during any of your performances?
My first Dancetour gig was amazing but I was still new to doing this professionally, so I think I’d have to say that as I’ve improved since then! Oh yes, a lot of strange sights, body parts, clothing lost, you name it! But when we did the Revealed bus tour a few years ago we played at this super haunted venue. We all kept hearing things, lights went off and on – creepy!
You have performed in Thailand at 808 Festival in 2014 and Waterzonic Festival 2015. Did you keep your performances – and Thailand in general – in good memory? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance at Onyx?
Yes in good memory, Waterzonic was especially super fun that one sticks out in my mind! Onyx is going to be crazy! I’m excited to play Onyx, Bangkok is always ready to party and the date is right among the holidays so we’ll have a good vibe going!
