Exclusive Interview with Dana Jasmine

Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Dana Jasmine, shortly before her performance at Insanity Nightclub on 25th December.

Where are you answering these questions?

I am in my studio, the place where I spend lots of time playing with the instruments, watching inspiration videos, collecting the finest music, speaking with my fans in social and answering all the questions about me.

You are an up-and-coming EDM DJ from Ukraine. How did you get in touch with DJing in the first place?

As a 17 years old girl, I was studying to be an actress, and visiting night clubs regularly, so of course I fell in love with dance music. One night was really special, there was a foreign guest Dj who played so fresh and so perfect music that it changed my life. That moment my goal became Djing - To do it as perfect as he did.

You play Electro House & Progressive House. How would you describe your own sound in just a few words, what is distinct about it?

The new phenomenal thing I like in the electronic dance music nowadays is that there are no boundaries anymore. So I can't say that my music is Progressive or Electro or House because it's a fusion which takes all the best from all genres. That fusion is my key how to build my own sound, I try to mix many styles and genres, then add my special instruments which is like a sign of my brand.

Are there any videos or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your sound?

A thing I don't like in the EDM nowadays, is that music became similar, too simple and empty inside. Artists lose their identities. So when every famous artists do the same music people start to love it only because of fame, and forgot to listen. I want to show my passion for dance music and share this passion with millions of people around the world ,that's why I create my radioshow "Insane", where I can open the world of true sound and say no to fast food in musical understanding. Of course it more easy to catch that feeling watching videos, so I can advice the new official videos from Album of Steve Angello "Wild Youth" , which is my inspiration and my mentor in the life of musician.

What are you currently working and focusing on and what’s on your agenda for the near future?

The touring life opens a new world for me, by traveling to a lots of different countries I discover the world in all its beauty and the lifestyles of the rich, but I also see poverty and injustice... That's having influence on me and influence on the sound I produce. I am working on my new tracks and want to share all my emotions in the international language - music. I spend a lot of time discovering new talents so my next tracks will be a collab with very talented vocalist. In the near future I will have a big European tour with famous venues and festivals, so there are lots of things coming, stay tuned !!!

How is it to be an attractive female in this mainly male dominated business?

It's very exiting. Life it always a challenge, you need to prove who you are, no matter you are a female or male.

You have performed at nightclubs all over the world – including China, Hong Kong, Dubai, Brazil, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Poland, Bahrain, India, Jordan, Mauritius and Egypt. In 2012 you were the Official DJ of the EURO UEFA world cup held in the Ukraine and Poland (you performed in stadiums for more than 60,000 people) and were also the Official DJ of the Formula 1 Grand Prix (Bahrain) in 2015. What were the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things that occurred during any of your performances?

Mostly all gigs I had was the best ones, I have a good team who always takes good care about me, but of course sometimes things can go wrong. Once I performed in a famous club during my China tour, the club was situated on the second floor after KTV (Karaoke), so when I started my set, I turned on my radio microphone and was going to say a couple of words to the crowd. Suddenly my mic caught the same radio wave as Karaoke had, this same moment some man was singing traditional Chinese song and instead of my voice, it started to broadcasting his (non professional) vocals over my music. In the few seconds I realized that something was wrong, but crowd was crazy in dancing and probably thinking that it was my brand-new remix.

You live in Kiev - the capital and largest city of Ukraine. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?

The Clubbing and Nightlife in Kiev is another universe. It's different from other countries I visited on my tours. The people are fashionable & glamourous, the face control is very strictly, the party music is local pop or deep house. Foreign visitors find this very exotic because it's different from what they used to see. You will not find the clubs which is too keen on music itself or special guests DJs - it’s about party for fun and being at the place to be.

On 25th December you will perform live in Bangkok at Insanity Nightclub. Have you visited Thailand before? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance?

I am very exited to come to Thailand for the first time in my life, I was waiting for it with pleasure. The big tour in China and Hong Kong showed me a Beaty of Asia and introduced me the musical tastes of people. I will prepare a special set for Bangkok which is full of energy, dance rhythms, passion and beauty melodies, so come and join me.
