Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Merk & Kremont, shortly before their performance at DND Club on 14th October.
Where are you answering these questions?
In our studio, in Italy, right now! We are leaving tomorrow for the first show of our asian tour.
You are a young Italian DJ & Production duo on the rise – currently ranked on #94 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list. How did each of you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place, how did you meet, what made you team up, and how did you get into DJing and music production?
We started as djs (separately) but then we both realized that if we wanted to play in the local clubs in Milan we had to have something more than the other djs and for us that meant production: we had a mutual friend who introduced us and taught us the basics of electronic music production; from that moment we started with some collaborations and after few months we were working together everyday in the studio.
You play and produce Electro House & Progressive House. How would you describe your own music, what is distinct about it?
We’re trying to develop a personal style of house music, a mixture between funky house and bouncy electro house. What makes it special is that we spend a lot of time trying to make our basslines sound catchy and original.
You are best known for your track “Now Or Never” and your most recent hit record “Get Get Down”. What other tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
Our first record to get a bit of attention from the world of big djs was definitely “Tundra”, a collab with Paris & Simo. The follow up single "Zunami" helped us have a recognizable sound. Our remix of “Rather Be” is also one of our most played records.
What is on your agenda for the near future and what are you currently working and focusing on?
We just signed a deal with Spinnin and together with the dutch label we are planning our assault on the world of electronic music (a peaceful assault, though :-))) Our next release will be UPNDOWN.
What were the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things that occurred during any of your performances?
Every gig has its own beauty, we’ve played in front of three people and still had fun!
You are from Milan - the second-most populous city in Italy. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?
Milan is a very cool city right now, we have a lot clubs and a lot of emerging djs/producers. If it’s your first time you definitely want to go to Fabrique.
You will make your Thailand Debut at DND Club on 13th October. Have you ever visited Thailand before? What can the Bangkok crowd expect from your upcoming performance?
We only made a very rapid stop in Thailand when we were traveling from Italy to Vietnam. we are really excited about the show, our friends Lush & Simon who just played there not a long time ago were really impressed by the reaction of the crowd. If it’s the same for us we might test some new bangers that we are working on right now!
