Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Pat Farrell, shortly before his performance at Insanity Nightclub on June 19.
You are one of the most successful DJs of Switzerland and have been involved in electronic dance music for over a decade as DJ & Producer, and also by running several successful party labels. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place, and how did you get into DJing and music production?
I start deejaying in 2000 with trance music for several years. In 2006 i changed the music style into EDM. I'm a co-producer and bring my ideas and inspiration to the studio. It is very difficult to be a professional DJ and a great producer. I have not enough time anymore to produce songs by myself.
You play and produce Electro- & Progressive House. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
Emotional, melodic, powerful.
You have produced ‘So I Dance’, the official anthem for the Swiss Mystery Park Festival and you have mixed two official compilations for the renowned Swiss music festival Street Parade, which hit the Top 10 Swiss Charts for more than 12 consecutive weeks. You have also collaborated with fellow countryman DJ Antoine for the ‘Houseworks Megahits’ compilation, which remained in the Top 10 for more than 10 weeks. What other tracks, remixes, compilations or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
My first album "MARATHON - Best of Pat Farrell" came out this spring. We picked some of the best song from the last 10 years. I have made 2 official remixes for superstar Inna & Flo Rida "Club Rocker" & "Endless". Follow me on Soundcloud or at the official podcast channel on iTunes to get a lot of fresh music also with radio shows (supported by Mexico, Netherlands, Germany Italy, etc.).
What are you currently working and focusing on? What’s on your agenda for the near future?
We’re working for our own Lovemobile for the upcoming Street Parade (Sat 29th August) which was sold out within 2 days. There are more than 900’000 guests from all over the world how visiting Zurich during this weekend. I also focusing on my summer tour and will play on big festival alongside Hardwell, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, etc. We’re working on new tracks, new facelift for my website and focusing to work closer with Asia on club touring.
Looking back on over 10 years as a DJ & Producer, what were the best and the worst gigs you ever played and what were the funniest things ever occurring during any of your performances?
My worst gig was when I start to become a DJ and there was no guests in the club, BUT I wanted to be a professional and played until the end. The funniest thing was when a lady blows her string up to the DJ booth in middle of my set…. Where ever I AM – it's always the same the best gigs are when the crowd and I going crazy about music ☺ There were a lot of very good gigs which I remember…. example: Palladium, Sundance Festival, Isle Of Dreams, City Beats Festival and especially my last Mexico tour.
You live in Zürich – the largest city in Switzerland and according to several surveys the city with the best quality of life in the world. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?
It is hard to believe but true: EDM is not working at this city, Zürich loves R&B, Hip Hop and Mash-up. So if you are plan to visit Switzerland you should visit the Street Parade with almost 1 Million party people in Zurich because this is the most famous festival in Switzerland during the summer. One of my favorite clubs in Lucerne (must see city) is the VEGAS Dance Club or the VANILLA Club (Ticino – Italian part) where you have every single time a new inspiration of music.
On 19th June you will be perform live in Bangkok at Insanity Nightclub. Have you visited Bangkok before? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance?
Yes, I can’t wait to be for my first time at the club and in Bangkok. I’ll bring a lot of new music, autograph cards, special Pat Farrell FAN and a lot more so check out my Facebook site and if you like to party with me – meet me at INSANITY NIGHTCLUB - I'm ready for a #selfie session ;-)
