Exclusive Interview with W&W
Together Festival 2015 will feature world-class talent including the Dutch DJ & Production duo W&W. They are ranked #18 in DJ MAG's Top 100 DJs list and best known for their track “Bigfoot". Last year they played major festival all around the world, including A State Of Trance, ULTRA, Tomorrowland, EDC and they also got a Residency at Las Vegas’ super-club Hakkasan.
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with W&W, shortly before their performance at Together Festival 2015 on 9th May.
You are a DJ and production duo since 2007 and entered the DJ MAG’s Top 100 DJs only 3 years later in 2010, currently residing on rank #18. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place, how did you guys meet and what made you team up to produce music together?
Ward: The first record I ever bought was a dance track. It was a track from Tiesto and from that moment on I was sold! Years later I started to make my own music and put it on a online forum. That’s how I met Willem. After a while we met each other at a festival through a mutual friend.
Willem: We started hanging out and after 6 months we started working on our first track, After a while we noticed that the music we made together was better than our solo stuff so we decided to work together and that’s how W&W was born.
You play and produce a mix of Trance, Electro- and Progressive House. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
W&W: We like to combine different genres and styles together so it’s hard to really give it a name.
Your singles “Mustang”, “Lift Off”, “The Code”, “Jumper” and especially “Bigfoot” have been highly successful and reached charts positions all over the word. What other tracks would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
W&W: I think they definitely have to listen to ‘Rave After Rave’ as well and we have some really cool stuff coming up that we are really proud of. So I would let them listen to some of the new stuff in our liveset from Ultra Music Festival in Miami this year.

Last year you played major festival all around the world, including A State Of Trance 650 (Russia), ULTRA (South Africa, Argentina, Miami & Korea), Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas and you also got a Residency at Las Vegas’ super-club Hakkasan. What’s on your agenda for 2015 and what are you currently and focusing working on?
Ward: Again we have a pretty hectic schedule! We already completed a tour through India, played at Tomorrowland Brazil and now we’re back in Asia for some cool gigs.
Willem: And this month we are also playing at EDC New York and a big Dutch festival called ‘Flying Dutch’, which takes place at three different cities throughout the country!
What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?
Willem: That’s a hard question. I think for now Ultra this March was one of our best gigs. It’s always great to rock the main stage there and we received so many compliments afterwards. Worst gig must be one we did when we just started.
Ward: Yeah we had some screw ups in the beginning haha but who doesn’t. And we still make mistakes sometimes. For example I played the same track twice. Lucky for me only Willem noticed.
You made your Thailand Debut last year at Road To Ultra Thailand. On 9th May you will return to Thailand as one of the headliners of Together Festival – alongside Steve Aoki, Dyro, Vinai, Sander Van Doorn and DubVision. Did you keep your Thailand Debut – and Thailand in general in good memory? What can the Bangkok crowd expect of your upcoming performance?
Ward: We loved it! Hopefully our gig this time will be equally as great as last year!
Willem: The crowd can expect a cool show with lots of new material. So hopefully everybody is ready to have a party!
