Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Made In June, shortly before her performance at Ocean Bangkok on 6th December.
You are a young & up-and-coming DJ & Producer from the Netherlands. How did you get in touch with electronic dance music in the first place and how did you get into DJing and music production?
Since I was young I already made music and played the piano and was a singer in a famous dutch children choir "Kinderen voor kinderen". So when my friends gave a party in 2007 I started DJing and enjoyed it so much to see people go nuts on the songs I selected that it was a good reason to keep on doing it! I was hooked! After a couple of years I played in every club in Amsterdam and I started to make my own bootlegs and from then on originals such as Tarzan, Golden and You and I. This to also let the world know my songs and have the chance to play DJ sets for every one who loves my music.
You play and produce a mix of House, Electro House & Progressive House. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
The most important touch in my music are the melodies and the warm vocals. I want to give you a feeling of love trough my songs. My songs are almost pop songs because of the vocals. You will notice this if you hear my new releases after You and I.
Your track “You and I” was awarded “Dance Smash” of the week on Radio 538 - Holland’s biggest commercial radio station. On top of that your tracks “You and I” & “Golden” were both played by Nicky Romero in his Protocol Radio radio show. What other tracks would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
My new song Perfect Storm is coming out really soon on label POWERHOUSE so keep an eye on that one!
What are you currently working and focusing on? What’s on your agenda for the near future?
At this moment I'm working in the studio a lot on new original Made in June songs. Pop/dance tracks. Also I will make remixes of artists who are more progressive. So when I work with the tracks they become more melodic.
You have played at the “Amsterdam Dance Event” (Netherlands), “Club MTV” (UK), “Dance Valley” (Netherlands) and Illumi Nation (Singapore). What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?
Once I played on a wedding in Spain for an older Dutch and German couple. The family didn't liked the songs the couple collected and blamed me for it. So at that point I decided to only play what I like and not let other people decide haha. I was sweating the whole set! Spain was beautiful, the island Mallorca. But that was the only highlight ;P.
The best time I had was on 'zwarte cross festival' where also Don Diablo played. The audience went nuts! See here. The festival is really funny because it's in the farmer part of Holland. So the audience had Boots on and there was a lot of mud and beer flying around! After the gig they picked as up in a crosser and we crossed like grazy over the festival field. You can see it at the and of my after movie! Also Illumi Nation was grazy and I love the Singapore people and to play with stars like Dada Life, Martin Solveig and Bingo Players. See here.
You live in Amsterdam - the capital city and most populous city of the Netherlands. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?
I looooove club NYX. A club where the audience is mixed like no other place in Amsterdam. Everyone I know loves the club. If you really want to be yourself go NYX! I still have my resident there on Saturday night once a Month.
On 6th December you will make your Thailand Debut at Ocean Bangkok. Have you visited Thailand before? What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?
What you can see in my after movie of Illumi Nation in Bangkok is that I like to hype the audience. I want to make a story during my DJ set. The story between me and the people who come to the show. We can't stop, we won't stop. You ou ou and I. Can't wait to meet the people in Thailand and make a party with them!
