Exclusive Interview with Florian Rietze
Born into a family of musicians, it came of no surprise to see a young Florian Rietze lay the platform of what would later manifest into an unyielding love for music. Based in Potsdam, this young DJ and producer has already received recognition from many within the proliferating European electronic music scene. Having initially been vested to the hip hop and breakdance culture, 2005 saw Florian take his first steps towards the electronic music scene when he attended SonneMondSterne. After DJing for a couple of years, Florian joined the Potsdam-based record label Concorde Club Recordings in 2007. From 2008 to 2010, along with producing music, Florian gained his education in the field of audio engineering at SAE Institute Berlin. Towards the end of 2012, Florian was warmly welcomed into the Steyoyoke record label, marking his debut with "Treibholz”.
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Florian Rietze, shortly before his performance at Glow Nightclub on 27th December.
You are a young & ambitious Deep House DJ/Producer from Potsdam, Germany. How would you describe your own music in in a few words?
In a few words I would describe it, melancholic, experimental, melodic and soulful. Hard to find words, because I always try to express what I feel.
Your debut EP “Treibholz” was released this March. What other tracks, remixes or mixes would you recommend as an introduction for someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
Actually this was my first release. I did several remixes on steyoyoke as well this year. More stuff is coming soon!!! But seriously, I would never suggest myself, because I am never satisfied with my work..haha!
You are part of a production duo called Mjutah. One of the tracks you released is called “Bangkok”. What’s the story behind the track and its name?
The whole EP is like a resume of my last trip to Asia. I was traveling in Laos and Thailand. Bangkok was one of the most exciting places I have ever been to, so we decided to give this song to the city of Bangkok.
What was the best and the worst gig you ever played so far and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?
I can’t even remember the worst gig. I delete every negative experience almost immediately. The best gig for me was actually this year in Paris at Rouge Club. The whole club was full, I mean really overloaded with people. Screaming and dancing like crazy… never experienced this before.
One funny thing happened to me in Berlin. A guy came over to the DJ booth and handed me over a “Bon Jovi” CD, with the words: Could you play this? You play to hard for me…” wtf??
What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife in your hometown Potsdam? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?
Seriously? No! I mean we have Berlin half an hour away..no reason to go out in Potsdam ☺
On 27th December you will perform live here in Bangkok at Glow Nightclub alongside the With Love crew. What can Bangkok expect of your upcoming performance?
Music.. and of course looove!!
