Girl Rising x Sunsilk Shine the Spotlight on DJ Mendy Indigo
In this short feature, Thai DJ "Mendy Indigo" talks about her journey to the global stage and inspiring other women.
Originally, Girl Rising (2013) was a documentary film that followed the stories of nine girls in nine developing countries. As they faced gender inequality and education gap, the film showed how their passion and resilient spirit help them break through barriers set before them.
The feature film aims to encourage changes on an individual and, eventually, social level. By showcasing these inspiring examples, the team hopes to raise awareness on the importance of education, especially among children and women, so they can unleash new possibilities.
That’s how Girl Rising began. Now a global movement that strives to support women, the team works with international organizations to bring their message across various media and channels. Previous projects include feature films, TV shows, social media campaigns, novels, radio shows, and school curriculums.
The unifying theme here is to show everyone how great would it be if girls have access to education & training and are allowed to become the best version of themselves.
For its Thailand project, Girl Rising collaborates with Sunsilk on the 1.45-min video clip featuring Thai DJ Mendy Indigo. Her original techno sound has brought her to the global stage as well as on tours in Europe, South America, and Asia.
However, Mendy’s journey is far from easy. She has worked as a photographer in Nepal, a clothes vendor at night markets, and a bar singer. She later discovered her love for music and DJing became her new passion and purpose.
We believe that through this short feature, she can inspire many others.
