We all have different reasons for running a marathon. Some of us do it to raise awareness for a cause; others take it as an opportunity to bond with others, while many of us want to test their endurance.
Whatever your reason may be, running is always an effective way to train your body and mind and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
If you feel like putting your running skills up to a challenge, we’ve listed for you 6 marathon events in Thailand that are worth a try. From competitive city runs to spectacular trail hikes, we’re sure there’s something for everyone from now until the end of the year.

Sahaviriya-Bangkok Triathlon 2018
Let’s kick things off with a big one! The Sahaviriya-Bangkok Triathlon is back again after a two-year hiatus, offering the marathon warriors of Bangkok a chance to once again swim in the River of Kings and run on the majestic Rama 8 bridge.
The two-day event consists of three different race types, each offering a unique set of challenges of their own. Whether you like to swim, bike, run, or all of them, this is the kind of event that will test the limits of your abilities as a race can last over 5 hours.
Proceeds from this event will go the Foundation for Life Development Under of the Patronage of H.R.H Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra foundation.

Mommy Buddy Bike & Run 2018
It’s always nice to share your interests with someone you love, so if you’re a runner or cyclist, then this event is made especially for you. Bike Style and Run magazine, together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, would like to invite you and your mother to get up early for a day to remember.
Other than getting healthy with a good round of morning exercise, you’ll also have a chance to make merit at Wat Chaloem Phrakiat Worawihan with your beloved friends and family.
The proceeds from the event will go to supplying medical equipment for the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute to help with its mission to increase the outreach of medical services in Samut Prakan and its neighboring provinces.

Run Free Bangkok 2018
Who says a marathon has to always cost money? Run Free, inspired by the no-frills concept, wants to break down the perception that taking part in a run comes with a cost. They offer runners with the option to take part in either a 5 km or 10 km race for free!
Of course, this will only provide you with a race bib (without a timing chip). So if you’re a merchandise kind of person, you can also opt for the paid “Basic Package” and be entitled with a t-shirt, a singlet, baggage deposit, a drawstring bag, a race bib, and a medal.
If you want to get hold of just some of the items mentioned above, you’re free to buy them individually as well!

Tiger Balm presents Khao Yai Trail Marathon 2018
As part of their concept “Run With Green”, the organizers have found a way to set you on a scenic trail run in Khao Yai National Park while minimizing any adverse impact on the environment.
The routes will cover enough terrain for anyone looking for a challenge but will be accessible and enjoyable for runners of every skill level. Whether you decide to take it is easy with the 3.5 km Fun Run or go all-out with the full 42 km marathon to explore all that this “Unesco World Heritage Site” has to offer, this will sure be an experience of a lifetime.

Allianz Ayudhya World Run Thailand Series 2018 - Field Run
Allianz Ayudhya World Run 2018 is keeping things simple with the concept of FRESH-FUN-FIRM. Enjoy the "fresh" air at The Scenery Vintage Farm in Suan Phueng, Ratchaburi while getting "firm" by running through a choice of routes through the picturesque scenery of one of Thailand's top weekend destinations.
Not only will you be running through the beautiful views of Tenasserim Hills, but you will also have a chance to run alongside disabled athletes who will be joining in on this inspirational event.
After the run, there'll also be a series of "fun" activities for you and your friends and family to enjoy.

Singha Ultra-Trail Chiang Rai
This one is for the hardcore trail runners to enjoy as the shortest race is 20 kilometers long and can last up to 6 hours! For a challenge of a lifetime, the Ultimate 230 km run will be a beast to conquer, but the rewards are priceless.
Aside from experiencing the natural beauty on the mountainous trails that surround the tea plantations and orchards of Singha Park that can take you up as high as 1,600 meters, you will also be provided with shower rooms and refreshments after the run.
In the northern province of Chiang Rai, the trip wouldn't be complete without enjoying a pint of ice-cold beer out in the open with the cool mountain breeze.
