One Man & The Sea: Environmental Campaign Led by Tono Phakhin
Tono Phakhin takes on the ocean with a campaign that aims to raise environmental awareness of the general public.
“One Man & The Sea” is Thailand’s latest environmental campaign led by singer/actor Tono Phakhin Khamwilaisak. He’ll make headlines from the Gulf of Thailand by swimming across 12 islands from Surat Thani province to Koh Samui
The objective of this campaign is to raise the general public’s awareness about the importance of the marine ecosystem and reducing plastic waste by not throwing trash into the ocean. After all, that’s how we can help preserve it for generations to come.
Tono Phakhin mentioned that he had been personally involved with multiple environmental initiatives for over a year, which had allowed him to see the imminent deterioration of Thailand's oceans.
This inspired him to come up with a campaign that can garner public attention and, in turn, inspire people to reduce plastic waste and give nature a fighting chance to recover. He also mentioned that if Thai people don’t get involved today, all the damage we've caused will soon come back and hurt every one of us in no time.
Tono’s incredible swim attempt will kick off on March 19, 2020, from Don Sak Pier in the Surat Thani Province and will come to completion around the Naval Support Base on Koh Samui, totaling at approximately 82 kilometers. The swim will start on March 19, 2020, and scheduled to be finished on April 5, 2020
Open water swimming can be extremely dangerous, but Tono had been preparing for this mission for a long time by practicing in swimming pools and lakes, before switching to the ocean to get used to the reality of ocean waves.
Tono has also been meeting up with professionals in sports science to run a full-body check and determine the best swim strokes that will allow Tono to get through any type of waves that he will encounter on his mission.
Aside from this main feat, Tono has invited his fellow Thai actors and artists to help the locals clean up the shores and its nearby communities along his swim route as part of this environmental initiative.
Several other actors and artists have taken part in the project a special fashion shoot, portraying the problem of ocean waste.
Thirteen Thai stars who decided to join in on this project include Yaya Urassaya, Aum Patcharapa, Bee Namthip, Mario Maurer, Koy Ratchwin, Woody Milintachinda, Nicha Nuttanicha, Kae Chollada, Mum Jokmok, Jazz Chuanchuen, Phillip Thinroj, Opal Panisara, and Sean Buranahiran.
The photography is handled by renowned Thai photographer Tim Punsiri. All the models will be wearing a white T-shirt printed with environmental statements like “Change Yourself”, “Save the Ocean”, and “Dumb Less Save More.”
