GREASE OUT takes over The Mansion RCA for a night of Hip Hop, Trap, Tropical Bass and Bass Music. The lineup features the Brazilian production duo TROPKILLAZ, supported by local talent BALLISTICONE & MONSTER P (CMYK) and DJ TOB (Bangkok Invaders).
Siam2nite had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Tropkillaz, shortly before their performance at the Mansion on 26th November.
Around 4 years ago you – Zegon and Laudz – teamed up to become the DJ/Production duo Tropkillaz. How did you guys meet and what made you team up?
Zegon: I met Laudz on twitter,he wrote me sending me some of his beats,I got impressed ,he wanted to work ,and told him to get bad ass on engineering, mixing and master, and that’s what he did.We live in different cities but he started coming to Sao Paulo often to work with me.
Your music is a fresh mix of Bass Music, Tropical Bass and Trap. How would you describe your own music in just a few words?
Tropkillaz Style,we don’t follow people we make our own.
An important track of your early days is “Mambo”, which counts over 700,000 plays on your Soundcloud by now. One of your most successful tracks is “Assets” - with Yellow Claw, released in 2013 on Diplo’s Mad Decent record label. What other tracks, remixes or mix-sets would you recommend to someone that is not yet familiar with your music?
One of our biggest songs are “baby Baby” for sure, also “Boa Noite” ,it means “Good Night” and its some kind of Tropkillaz anthem,We have songs in all bpms,we recommend people to check our soundcloud ,if they’re into Bass Music they definitely gonna find something they like, over 60 songs all for free download.
What are you currently and focusing and working on? What’s on your agenda for the near future?
We’ve been touring a lot, over 10 international runs in 2014 ,Europe,USA,Canada,South America,Asia..We gonna slow it up a little on the next few months to focus on new music,We have some strong new collaborations coming out, and EP with UZ,tracks with Major Lazer,BizMarkie,,The Kemist,Spice(Jamaica) and many more,We working some secret mainstream artitsts too…
What was the best and the worst gig you ever played and what was the funniest thing ever occurred during any of your performances?
There’s not one special best gig,but the gigs on our hometown are pretty special,we don’t play very much at home, another special one was at Control (Avalon –LA) sold out with Meuax green and Party Favor ,also Noithing Hill Carnival in London ,so many to list. A Worst gig was a gig that we couldn’t play because the turntables are really bad and not working fine with Serato.Yes we still rock on turntables and we mix. There’s so many fun stuff on the performances also hard to list one.
Zegon, you live in São Paulo - the largest city in Brazil and the world's 12th largest city by population. What can you tell us about clubbing and nightlife there? Do you have any nightlife related suggestions for first-time visitors?
Sao Paulo has a really strong scene and nightlife,Monday to Monday .and some really skilled dj’s.Who to watch “real djying” playing from classics to new style should definitely check our crew Chocolate Parties on Clash Club and Lions.
In September 2013 Zegon was one of the guest DJs at the Bassclef club night at Grease – as Tropkillaz your performance on 26th November at GREASE OUT at The Mansion RCA will be your Bangkok Debut. What can we expect of your upcoming performance?
We are pretty excited to play in Bangkok,Laudz gonna love it.I can say easely BKK is one of my favorite cities in the world,We gonna play all the new secret tunes, and of course rock the party with the classics. Also Big shout outs to our family Thailand ,The Bangkok Invaders.See you guys in the club!
